PointsBet Sportsbook has Palou as their favourite at Road America, with three road course wins in 2021 and three podiums in 2022's first five road races. (1 p.m. Sunday)
Palou finished sixth in the last race at Bell Isle last week, the 11th time he has finished seventh or better in the past 13 road course races. His +450 line for Sonsio Grand Prix is a result of his consistency.
Moving the decimal point two to the left is one approach to looking at American Odds. This will tell a bettor how much they can win on a $1 bet. Therefore Palou's return on investment this week is $4.50. A bet of +300 is the same as 3/1 for gamblers who prefer fractional odds.
Just 30 points favour Palou over Josef Newgarden, who entered with a line of +480. In 2022, Newgarden's results have been mixed, with a win at Long Beach and a fourth-place finish at Belle Isle being offset by three finishes outside the top ten on the road and street courses. In 2018, Newgarden won one race at Road America and started on the pole thrice.
Newgarden finished 21st last year after leading the field to the green.
Will Power and Pato O'Ward are ranked third this week with +500 lines.
With a sweep of the top five in five races and a last-minute win at Belle Isle, Power has the most significant road track record this season. Power won the Road America race in 2016 and has finished on the podium in three of his last four appearances.
In his last four road course appearances, O'Ward had three top-five finishes, including a win at Barber Motorsports Park. In the IndyCar series, he has four appearances at Road America, with a best finish of second in the second doubleheader race in 2020.
With a line of +575, Colton Herta completes the top five. He has finished in the top ten in his last nine road course tries. Three of these triumphs came last year at Laguna Seca and Long Beach and on the Indianapolis road course, where he was the favourite with a +560 line.
No other driver is currently listed at less than 10/1 for Road America, leaving bettors with a few intriguing dark horses such as Scott McLaughlin (+1200), who won the season opener in St. Petersburg, Romain Grosjean (+1100), who finished second in Long Beach, and Rinus VeeKay (+1600), who finished third in Barber.
