US Senior Women's Open
It's a party of former champions at the US Senior Women's Open, with nothing left to prove but plenty to gain.
Laura Davies
Laura Davies, the first to win the US Senior Women's Open, turned in a bogey-free dream round of 68-under 5-under to share the lead at 215-under 4-under with Helen Alfredsson, whose rollercoaster day did not settle until she signed for a 75.
Annika Sorenstam
Meanwhile, Annika Sorenstam, last year's runaway champion, was down as many as six shots on Saturday afternoon but ended the day in one. Sorenstam's eventful par-par round had five bogeys, including a three-putt from 5 feet on No. 6 and five birdies.
“I felt very nervous,” Sorenstam said. “I felt very uncomfortable. I couldn't find anything.
NCR Country Club
An injury sustained during a massage at the AIG Women's British Open in Muirfield. Although she withdrew from three previous events at NCR Country Club, Davies would not miss this week, though her soreness had moved to her calf muscle after several weeks of awkward walking.
Davies started Saturday seven shots behind but credited morning acupuncture treatment for improving her game. While walking was still painful, it no longer hurt to swing.
"The feelings are exactly the same," Davies said of being back in contention for the first time in four years.
Suppose I were in contention for the LPGA. The job would probably be ten times harder than being one of the longest hitters.
Nelly (Korda) and Lexi Thompson
He would be waving at Nelly (Korda) about 50 yards down the fairway and Lexi (Thompson). So that's slightly different. But the feelings and being a bit scared on the first tee tomorrow for everyone in contention will be the same for all of us."
We have to find out something. We have been friends ever since. I remember they won that year, and they had to perform something for 'Thriller,' and that was the worst thing I've ever seen."
“Play backgammon against me, it's the same. Here we are walking the dog and you see someone in front of you, and it's like, yeah, I can catch him. He is so stupid, but he is always a part of you.”
