Kyle Shanahan
The status of 49ers tight end George Kittle for Sunday's season opener against the Bears is very uncertain as he missed his second consecutive practice on Thursday due to a groin issue.
When Kyle Shanahan, the head coach, appeared on KNBR on Friday morning, he was questioned about Kittle's availability. His response did little to inspire hope that Kittle would be able to play this weekend in Chicago.
According to 49ersWebzone.com, Shanahan stated, "I don't know yet." "I truly hope everything works out. I'm making an effort to view things favorably. He could not leave yesterday, but they will strike him hard today. They'll work on it all morning, and hopefully, he can go out and work in the red zone today.
The 49ers will have another practice on Friday, and later in the day, they will announce any injury designations for Sunday. If Kittle cannot play tight end, Charlie Woerner, Ross Dwelley, and Tyler Kroft would be the next man up.
