Roquan Smith, a linebacker for the Bears, was supposed to play on Saturday night but didn't.
Ryan Poles, general manager of the Bears, stated on the Fox 32 broadcast that Smith felt some "tightness" during an early exercise. Poles didn't go into detail.
I believe things will work out for him," continued Poles.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Smith was being put through the paces by linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi and athletic trainer Andre Tucker to get him ready to play. Smith was not wearing a uniform and was on the bench when the squad started its warm-ups.
Last Saturday, Smith participated in a practice session for the first time during training camp after ending his "hold-in." After failing to reach an agreement on a long-term contract, he decided to stay on his current deal, which secures him $9.7 million this season on his fifth-year option.
Throughout four seasons, Smith has racked up 524 tackles, 43 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, 17 quarterback hits, 17 pass breakups, and five interceptions.
