The queen sports platform, DAZN
This Sunday, the queen sports platform, DAZN, will bring us a long-awaited boxing match. The fight was initially planned for July 2021, but Garcia gave up the fight citing mental health issues.
Ryan García
Ryan García (22-0, 18 KOs) is one of the most significant figures on the international boxing scene. His fights always generate a lot of expectation, partly because of that curiosity that undefeated boxers give off at the highest level. On Sunday, he will have his second fight in 2022, after beating Emmanuel Tagoe by unanimous decision in April, a war that we could also see on the DAZN platform. Against Tagoe, Garcia went up to 139 pounds and returned to 135 to face a significant rival.
The American Ryan Garcia continues to want to show that he has the necessary credentials to aspire to a world title that he longs for. He wants to regain the interim WBC lightweight title he already held by winning a seventh-round KO over Luke Campbell. Months later, his belt was withdrawn for not defending it.
Javier "El abejon" Fortuna
Garcia will not have it easy in this second match of the year. Opposite him will be Dominican Javier "El abejón" Fortuna (36-3-1-2, 26 KO's). The 33-year-old former WBA featherweight champion says he has thoroughly prepared for his fight against Garcia. The Dominican overflows with confidence and trust in his possibilities, although he comes from losing to Joseph "Jojo" Díazby's unanimous decision. On the night he was to face Garcia, Fortuna remained on the card and failed to Diaz, the American's replacement. The Dominican ended that fight with a broken finger. He has an aggressive fighting style and a left hand with a lot of punching power. After Garcia's retirement last year, Fortuna accused him of being afraid of him and now warns that he will take away the undefeated American.
WBC lightweight title
Both will fight for the interim WBC lightweight title at the Arena in Los Angeles. The chosen site has a considerable reputation among boxing fans and professionals. It will be a 12-round fight between the two contenders, and Oscar de la Hoya's "protege" starts as the clear betting favourite.
