Sam Martin
Sam Martin, a punter with the Broncos, was fired because he refused to accept a compensation decrease.
The Broncos
Martin refused to accept a pay cut; thus, the Broncos released him today, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
A fifth-round pick of the Lions
Martin, a 2013 fifth-round pick of the Lions, played in Detroit for seven years before moving to Denver for the past two. He had a base salary of $2.25 million this year, but none of that was guaranteed, so the Broncos will save that much on their salary budget by dismissing him. He had a three-year, $7.05 million contract with the Broncos in 2020.
Corliss Waitman
Martin probably won't be out of a job for too long: He has consistently been among the league's top punters and is expected to be signed.
The Broncos' punter will now be Corliss Waitman.
