According to SNY NBA insider Ian Bagley, internal negotiations between the Lakers and the Nets occurred earlier this season.
The controversy arose when a vaccinated Irving COVID could not play at home due to a need for a vaccine and could not play on the street due to Brooklyn's absence.
Bagley points out that it is not clear if there was an internal deal between the Lakers and Irving.
Irving will play LeBron James, who won the NBA Championship with the Cavaliers in 2016 and defeated the Warriors 73-9 in the city's first tournament in 52 years.
One season later, Irving was offered a transfer from James to the Boston Celtics. He was a member of the team from 2014 to 2017.
Irving said he was not thinking about his future, as he would not be able to play in the nets due to his vaccination situation. The former Celtics beat him and the Nets in the first round of the playoffs last year.
