Stephan Jaeger moved up eight spots in the playoff standings despite failing to cut the 3M Open last week, making him the new bubble boy for the postseason.
Players suspended for participating in LIV Golf events were removed from the revised playoff eligibility list, released by the PGA Tour on Tuesday. Jaeger moved up eight players on the new list—those who had not renounced their Tour membership—moving him from 133rd to 125th.
By himself, the 33-year-old is contributing to that encouraging trend this week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
At Detroit Golf Club on Thursday, Jaeger scored a 5-under 67. He is three back of the early lead, maintained by Taylor Pendrith and Tony Finau, last week's victor.
"Last week, I failed to cut in Minneapolis. I returned home and tried to make sense of what had happened by sorting through some old documents. Today I felt much more at ease, which is wonderful. Jaeger, who scored six birdies and one bogey, described his round as "just overall solid."
Jaeger is in his entire third season on the Tour. He had previously placed outside the top 150 in the FEC rankings twice. Jaeger isn't letting the strain of preserving his card get to him even though two events remain in the regular season, this one and the next Wyndham Championship.
In a sense, it doesn't alter my life. In my home, I am constantly supported by my wife, and she is always there. I do, indeed. Will I have to? Jaeger said no, I wouldn't care; I'll be alright. "I try to maintain as much perspective as possible in that regard. The world is not over, and I am confident I will return. Yes, it's a terrific start, so this week, put the pedal to the metal and attempt to do something.
