Sam Martin's Bills debut was uneventful.
Martin joined the squad in Buffalo earlier this month as the punter, but his first game with the team made it clear to him that punting isn't necessarily a part of that job's duties. Martin never needed to hand the ball back to the Rams at the end of a drive in a 31-10 Bills victory as Tyler Bass held for five kicks throughout the evening.
The Bills' punter has not been asked to punt the ball for the fourth time in the last six games. Last year, they didn't kick in Weeks 16 or 17 and didn't do so in the Patriots' blowout in the Wild Card round in January.
Beginning of December 2021
Only two other teams have gone a complete game without punting since the beginning of December 2021.
Martin could keep his foot in the holster all night, thanks partly to four turnovers, which the Bills do not intend to accomplish weekly. But generally speaking, if Martin is doing more holding than kicking, things will be going well in Buffalo.
