Los Angeles (AFP) – The Los Angeles Lakers hired Darvin Ham as their new coach, current assistant in the Milwaukee Bucks, and without experience as head coach in the NBA, US media advanced this Friday.
The Los Angeles franchise has been looking for a coach since he fired Frank Vogel on April 11, who held his bench for the past three seasons.
The departure of Vogel, who guided the Lakers to the ring in 2020, came after missing out on the playoffs with a roster that included stars like LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook.
Ham had served since 2013 as an assistant to Mike Budenholzer, both with the Milwaukee Bucks, when they honored the title last year, and before with the Atlanta Hawks. He was also an assistant for the Lakers from 2011-to 2013 and was previously an NBA player for eight seasons.
"Ham made a great impression on the Lakers in several ways, including his championship pedigree, commanding presence, all-star coaching record, and toughness," explained TV CHANNEL reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, who advanced the hire.
Ham, who will sign for four seasons, was part of a shortlist of candidates for the Lakers' bench, including veteran Terry Stotts and Kenny Atkinson.
