On Friday afternoon, a further step toward hearing the NFL's appeal of the six-game suspension imposed on Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was made.
The NFL Players Association declared that it has responded to the league's appeal in brief. The NFLPA had until Friday to submit that brief.
The NFL is reportedly seeking a fine and an indefinite suspension of at least one year. Sue L. Robinson's initial decision did not impose financial sanctions on Watson.
Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL, chose the former attorney general of New Jersey, Peter Harvey, to hear the appeal. Harvey has participated in league advisory panels and worked with the league on the Personal Conduct Policy that led to Watson's suspension.
Harvey's judgment should be forthcoming and provide the Browns certainty about when they might have their crucial acquisition of the year in the lineup because the policy calls for an expedited decision on appeal.
