The PGA Tour has established a secondary points list for eligibility, with the FedExCup playoffs starting in two weeks. This list will be updated to reflect individuals who have not yet resigned but have been permanently barred from the Tour for competing in LIV Golf events.
According to a memo emailed to players by Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, the circuit took action to ensure suspended players will not adversely affect other players' tournament eligibility, priority rankings, and FedExCup playoff eligibility.
The policy board has given the policy board approval to introduce an "eligibility points list," which strikes suspended players from the FedExCup list. The top 125 players advance to the inaugural postseason competition, while the regular-season points list determines the participants' standing for the following season.
The email stated that although the new list would not replace the official FedExCup points list, it would give players and fans more information on tournament eligibility, including the FedExCup playoffs and priority rankings for the 2022–2023 season.
The Tour also provided players with the most recent eligibility points list, which had the suspended players deleted, along with the note. The new FedExCup points list ranks Stephan Jaeger 125th and 133rd in the regular-season list. No. 125 on the FedExCup list and 117th on the eligibility list is Webb Simpson.
The following list of players that were struck from the eligibility list is accompanied by their FEC standing:
Gooch, Talor (20)
Thomas Jones (62)
Swafford, Hudson (63)
Thomas Wolff (70)
Aaron Ancer (80)
José Ortiz (100)
Brendon Koepka (102)
Perez, Pat (121)
On Friday, Paul Casey (127), Charles Howell III (99), and Jason Kokrak (40), who are all currently eligible, will make their LIV Golf debuts., the number will shift even further after this week. The trio is anticipated to be suspended and struck off the eligibility list. The target line would then move up to position 136 in the initial FedExCup standings.
The memo stated, "We have taken steps to ensure that any suspended players will not adversely affect bonus money payments to you after the FedExCup regular season and FedExCup playoffs."
You will get bonus money following your final standing on the FedExCup playoffs and eligibility points list; suspended members will receive bonus money following their last standing on the official FedExCup points list.
This year's Presidents Cup eligibility was also clarified in the memo, which said that "only players who are qualified for tournament play may compete in the Presidents Cup, regardless of membership status." This would prevent anybody who has been banned from participating in the Saudi-sponsored LIV league from participating in this year's competition.
