The PGA Tour has established a secondary points list for eligibility, with the FedExCup playoffs starting in two weeks. We will remove from this list those who have been suspended indefinitely by the Tour and have not quit the Tour.
A memo emailed to players by Tour commissioner Jay Monahan states that the circuit took action to ensure that suspended members would not adversely affect other players' tournament eligibility, priority ranking positioning, or FedExCup playoff eligibility.
The FedExCup list will no longer include suspended players, thanks to the policy board's approval to introduce an "eligibility points list." The top 125 finishers advance to the first postseason competition, while the regular-season points list determines each player's standing for the next campaign.
Although the new list won't replace the official FedExCup points list, it will give players and spectators clarity about tournament eligibility, including the FedExCup playoffs and priority rankings for the 2022–2023 season, according to the memo.
"This list will not replace the FedExCup points list, but it will provide clarity for players and fans alike regarding tournament eligibility, including FedExCup playoffs and priority rankings," the memo said.
The Tour also provided players with the most recent eligibility points list, which had the suspended players deleted, along with the note. Stephan Jaeger, ranked No. 133 on the regular-season FedExCup points list, is the 125th-ranked player on the new list. No. 125 on the FedExCup list and 117th on the eligibility list is Webb Simpson.
Their FEC standing accompanies the following list of players that were struck from the eligibility list:
Gooch, Talor (20)
Thomas Jones (62)
Swafford, Hudson (63)
Thomas Wolff (70)
Aaron Ancer (80)
José Ortiz (100)
Brendon Koepka
When Jason Kokrak (who is presently 40th on the eligibility list), Charles Howell III (99), and Paul Casey (127) make their LIV Golf debuts on Friday, the number will shift even further after this week. The trio is anticipated to be suspended and struck off the eligibility list. The target line would then move up to position 136 in the initial FedExCup standings.
The memo stated, "We have taken steps to ensure that any suspended players will not adversely affect bonus money payments to you after the FedExCup regular season and FedExCup playoffs." You will get bonus money following your final standing on the FedExCup playoffs and eligibility points list; suspended members will receive bonus money following their last standing on the official FedExCup points list.
This year's Presidents Cup eligibility was also clarified in the memo, which said that "only players who are qualified for tournament play may compete in the Presidents Cup, regardless of membership status." This would prevent anybody who has been banned from participating in the Saudi-sponsored LIV league from participating in this year's competition.
