As a result of Wales' victory over Ukraine in the European playoff in June, they were placed in Group B for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, joining Iran, England, and the United States, who had already been assigned to the group on April 1.
The first team drawn into Group B was England, the seeded team from Pot 1. The United States from Pot 2 was in the rear of the 1966 champions. Iran from Pot 3 was initially assigned to Group A but was changed to Group B due to the presence of another member of the Asian Confederation. (The same region could not have two teams placed in the same group; there could only be two European teams per group.)
Finally, Group B received the currently undetermined berth in the European playoffs from Pot 4. Wales won that playoff match after defeating Ukraine and Austria (in March) (in June). Due to the conflict in Ukraine brought on by Russia's invasion, the European playoff final has been pushed back to June.
In past World Cups, the United States faced both England and Iran. In the past, the U.S. has twice shocked England, once in 1950 with a memorable victory that eliminated England and once in 2010 with a draw that saw the U.S. win the group.
WORLD CUP DRAW BREAKDOWNS:
Group A | Group B | Group C | Group D
Group E | Group F | Group G | Group H
In Round 16, each of the two teams from Group B that advance would play a group from Group A.

Each nation will face the other three teams in a round-robin manner as the four teams chosen for the group. The three group stage matches count toward the group rankings; a win earns three points, a tie earns one, and a loss earns none.
According to total points, the top two teams from each group proceed to the single-game knockouts. Goal differential comes first as a tiebreaker when teams are deadlocked on points, then goals scored. Another set of tiebreakers is used if teams are deadlocked in those areas as well.
England in World Cup Group B
The team will be determined to win their first major title since 1966 in Qatar after making it to the World Cup semifinals in 2018 and the Euro 2021 final, only to lose heartbreakingly on penalties to Italy.
Among the promising young talents at Gareth Southgate's disposal are Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, as well as a few seasoned stars who have now competed in many major tournaments. It's now a matter of seeing if they can cross the finish line.
While Harry Kane will unavoidably once again come under intense scrutiny, Southgate will be hoping that Manchester United defender Harry Maguire can regain his best form in time for the tournament, who is expected to have the ability to surpass all previous goals scorers for his nation.

USA
It has been confirmed that the United States will participate in the World Cup in 2022 after narrowly defeating Costa Rica on goal differential in regional qualifying. The United States men's national team (USMNT) will be appearing on the world stage for the eleventh time, with a semifinal appearance at the first competition in 1930 producing the most remarkable outcome.
Without a doubt, Gregg Berhalter's team possesses the youthful talent to stand a chance of making it out of the group stage and should enthrall fans along the road as they prepare for a potential long World Cup run.
Christian Pulisic of Chelsea is anticipated to take on the primary role, with Gio Reyna of Borussia Dortmund serving as the attack's spark plug. Given their 21 goals scored in qualifying, the United States will provide a serious threat moving forward for teams to be concerned about.

Iran
As the top-ranked Asian nation capable of making an impact at the competition, Iran will compete in the World Cup finals for a third consecutive time.
With an impressive 8W-1L-1D record in their final qualifying round matches, Dragan Skocic's team quickly qualified for the 2022 championship. Iran beat South Korea, who also qualified as the group's runner-up, by just enough points to take first place.
Iran has a potent attacking lineup that includes Porto forward Mehdi Taremi, Feyenoord creator Alireza Jahanbakhsh, and Bayer Leverkusen threat Sardar Azmoun. Skocic's team has netted 15 goals in 10 final-round qualifying games after scoring ten goals in one match against Cambodia earlier in the qualifying process.

Wales
The conclusion of the final European playoff position was delayed until June due to events off the field. On June 5, Wales overcame Ukraine to earn the final European World Cup playoff spot and its first appearance since 1958.
Wales made their lone World Cup finals appearance in 1958, advancing to the quarterfinals. Despite being a tiny country, they have recently surpassed expectations, even making it to the quarterfinals of Euro 2016 before falling to the eventual champions of Portugal. Any World Cup ambitions will depend on Gareth Bale and Daniel James.
