Two 2022 USFL semifinal games will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, with the Birmingham Stallions defeating the New Orleans Breakers 31-17 in the second of those games.
The Stallions could pull away late in the fourth quarter and clinch a spot in the Championship despite the Breakers scoring on their first drive of the game and both teams scoring 28 points in the second quarter alone.
With a passing score, a rushing touchdown, a kick return touchdown, two interceptions, and a touchdown from their defense, the Stallions and head coach Skip Holtz had success on all four corners of the field. Former NFL head coach and broadcaster Jason Garrett praised quarterback J'Mar Smith's performance, calling it "MVP" and "Championship" caliber.
Kyle Sloter, the quarterback for New Orleans, passed for 327 yards, one score, and two picks. On 40 attempts, he completed 22 of the passes. Sal Canella, a tight end, connected with Sloter all night, producing 154 yards on 12 receptions.
Birmingham will take on Bart Andrus and the Philadelphia Stars in the inaugural USFL Championship on Sunday, July 3 at 7:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
