During its illustrious history, some of the top 3-year-old fillies in the sport have competed in the Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park.
A Grade 1 winner and two fillies who finished second and third in the Longines Kentucky Oaks are among the five horses entered in the race on Saturday, despite the race losing some of its appeals over the years and sinking to a Grade 2 stakes.
1. Shahama (9-5 morning-line odds):
The UAE Oaks champion bumped up from 13th place to sixth in the Kentucky Oaks after a late rally. Todd Pletcher, a Hall of Fame trainer, will be giving her her second start, and he anticipates improvement. With six previous victories in the Mother Goose for Pletcher, With her, a seventh child is not improbable.

2. Venti Valentine (5-1):
She had a terrible performance in the Kentucky Oaks after being hard-checked entering the first turn. She gradually faded to finish last. She was good enough to place second in the 2021 Demoiselle Stakes to Nest, who finished second in the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets two weeks prior. That was the only occasion in her career she placed worse than second. She will play a significant role in her finest effort.

3. Midnight Stroll (10-1):
She had a difficult race, placing third in the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes.
That day, she was 32.10-1, and her only stakes victory came in a competition open to Florida-bred horses. Although her speed makes her potentially hazardous in a confined space, the fact that she will likely face competition up front lessens her attraction.
Javier Castellano, jockey John Terranova II, Trainer
4. Gerrymander (5-1):
On May 6, at seven furlongs, she finished sixth in Grade 2 Eight Belles Stakes presented by TwinSpires, which put her in a difficult position for her 2022 debut. Although she expects to improve from the Eight Belles, the one 1/16-mile distance will be her biggest race, and she will need to make significant progress to win.
Joel, Jock. Rosario Chad Brown, trainer
5. Juju's Map (1-1):
She ran that day and defeated older competition in an allowance race at Churchill Downs despite slight difficulties keeping her out of the Kentucky Oaks. A Grade 1-winning filly who finished second in the NetJets Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies last year put forth a solid return effort, and she will benefit from seven weeks of recovery in this race.
