Two of China's four separate medal winners from the Tokyo Olympics e list for the global diving championships, which begin on June 26.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Cao Yuan, who won men's springboard gold in Rio and staged gold in Tokyo, and Quan Hongchan, who conquered the women's platform in Tokyo at 14, led the team for worlds in Budapest.
The other solitary Olympic gold medalist mostly on the roster is Ren Qian, the 2016 women's platform champion.
In Olympic history's most dominant team effort, China won seven of the eight diver gold medals in Tokyo, with a silver in the other. In each of the four individual events, it placed first and second.
According to Chinese media, about half of that ideal team has retired from competition. For example, Shi Tingmao and Xie Siyi swept the gold medals in the women's and men's solo and synchronized springboard events.
Delaney Schnell, who won stage bronze in 2019 and tandem springboard silver in Tokyo, and Sarah Bacon, who won silver in the non-Olympic category of 1m springboard at the 2019 Worlds, lead the US diving lineup for diving worlds.
As he vacationed from the competition, David Boudia, a four-time Olympic champion who didn't even qualify for Tokyo, is on the training team for the World Championships. In April, Boudia, 33, stated that he did not know if he would compete again.
China has reigned the sport for the past two decades and took home 12 of the 13 gold medals in the most recent World Championships in 2019.
