This summer, Indianapolis (Ind.) Cathedral 2024 quarterback Danny O'Neil was able to visit some teams, including Indiana, Kentucky, and Purdue, all of which have offered him a scholarship.
O'Neil visited West Lafayette, and he did it again on June 5.
"It was fantastic," O'Neil said of his most recent visit to the Boilermakers' campus. "I had the chance to throw in front of Coach Brohm for the first time, and it was the first time he could work with me." I've thrown in front of him at other camps before, but not at his.. I've thrown in front of him at other camps before, but not at his. He was very hands-on with me, teaching me Purdue footwork and other things like that and getting me into the proper checks for their quarterbacks."
Purdue continues to be a force to be reckoned with.
"I've been able to grow relationships with all of their coaches," O'Neil added. "It's just that I've been able to travel up there as frequently as I have." It's the Brohm brothers' and the rest of the offensive staff's relationship. Every time I've been up there, they've welcomed my family and me with open arms. Even so, we still get a lot out of them, and because I've been up there so much, I know a lot more about Purdue than I do about most of the other locations I've been."
In the spring, O'Neil visited Kentucky, and he is back now.
Kentucky is up there as well," O'Neil remarked. "Coach (Rich) Scangarello is a genius," says the narrator. That's the most accurate description. No matter what level you're talking about, he's one of the top offensive brains in the country. He knows a lot more about the quarterback position than many people, having played in high school, college, and the NFL. The offense he's set to implement at Kentucky should translate well, and the Wildcats should be a force in the SEC this season. In Lexington, O'Neil is also at ease.
It's the family atmosphere," O'Neil explained. "All of the coaches there were fantastic with me and my father. All of the coaches are kind guys. "It's a blast to be around."
Indiana made an offer to O'Neil recently, and he accepted.
He said, "IU was fantastic." "They've jumped to the top of my priority list." Simply put, the folks who work there are lovely. They suffered a poor run of injuries last year and couldn't do anything about it. Throughout the season, and even before the season, everyone kept falling. I expect a lot of beautiful things to happen for them this year. On the field, I believe they'll resume their rising trajectory from the previous years."
Several aspects about the Hoosiers capture his interest." They're lovely folks," stated O'Neil. "Coach Allen is a true believer in what he preaches. He adores his teammates. It's something he's concerned about. He's proud of the fact that he's one of the top coaches in the world right now. It's simple to see. Being an Indiana native, seeing him be able to represent his home state in such a positive light is inspiring. He approaches his work in a very unique way."
O'Neil has also made spring/summer visits to Louisville, Illinois, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia, Northwestern, and Alabama. He'll be at LSU on Thursday before traveling to Ohio State and Penn State the following week.
O'Neil was a sophomore when Cathedral won the state championship
He threw for 2,956 yards and 33 touchdowns with only two interceptions. He rushed for another 305 yards and ten touchdowns.
