The two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning is on the verge of a third straight NHL playoff final. With an outstanding performance by Russian Mikhail Sergachev, they defeated the New York Rangers 3-1 on Thursday to take the lead ( 3-2 ) in their series.
There is only one win left at Tampa Bay to win the Eastern Conference final and then try to retain the Stanley Cup against the Colorado Avalanche, the West playoff winner. The next game will take place on Saturday at the Lightning home, where the hosts have only lost one game in these
playoffs.
At Madison Square Garden, the Lightning repeatedly found their way, although Ryan Lindgren was the one who scored the first goal of the game for the Rangers. It took Tampa just seven minutes to recover, thanks to Mikhail Sergachev, who not only equalized but also set up his team's second goal from Ondrej Palat two minutes from time.
New York brought out their goalie to try to equalize, but he was stopped by Brandon Hagel, who completed his team's crucial victory in the dying seconds.
