Jordan Burroughs, Helen Maroulis, Tamyra Mensah-Stock, Kyle Snyder, and David Taylor, all Olympic gold medalists, will lead the U.S. wrestling team to the world championships in Serbia in September.

All five Olympic winners had to win their last series in the last week to make the team.

Burroughs, a medal winner in London in 2012, was pushed deciding third match in New York City on Wednesday night by Chance Marsteller. The latter dispatched his younger opponent 5-0 to qualify for his 11th Olympic or world squad dating back to 2011.

In match three, anyone can beat me, remarked Burroughs, who had lost the first match of the series. It all boils down to the quality of heart and trust.

Burroughs, 33, had said that he would retire following the 2024 Olympics, regardless of whether he joined the team.

He spoke with a plasma scar on the forehead at his hairline, saying, "I believed 2020 was going to be it." It didn't turn out the way I had hoped.

"If I don't set a specific date, in 2024, I'll be like, oh, the Games are in L.A., they're local, I could make it, but I'll be 40 years old in L.A." "If I don't set a deadline, in 2024, I'll be more like, yeah, the Olympics are already in L.A., they're all local, I maybe make there, but I'll be 40 in L.A." "It's not going to happen."

Last year, Burroughs dropped his maiden U.S. trials match, losing to Kyle Dake and missing out on the spot on the Olympiad. He moved from 74kg to 79kg last October and won his first world title and sixth at the non-Olympic level.

"I would like another crack at Dake," Burroughs said.

Maroulis became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in women's wrestling in 2016. Taylor, who took medals in Tokyo, won their most okay finals series on Wednesday in New York City.

Last week, Snyder and Mensah-Stock won final in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
