On the other side of Tokyo Bay, the first X Games in Japan in Chiba will take place this weekend. After the first three days of play, the Americans are in the lead.
On Sunday, five American men qualified for the skateboarding park finals, including Jagger Eaton, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Bryce Wettstein, a fellow Olympian, was one of three Americans to advance in the women's event, culminating on Saturday.
In Olympic skateboarding, men and women compete in park and street events. Both fields of study are represented; this weekend's X Games will feature both disciplines. The lone American in the film is Poe Pinson.
Eaton, 21, was a bronze medalist in the Olympic street skating competition last year, but his performance in the park event on Friday stood out. Skaters perform stunts in a circuit hollowed out to resemble an empty swimming pool. He achieved the highest score in the elimination round.
"It's fantastic to know where my tricks stand, and it's amazing to know what it's like to compete, right?" Eaton, a three-time X Games medalist, stated during the broadcast. "Because it can be exhausting to go this far with all of your friends." It can be tricky and cause a lot of anxiety, so I'm glad I finished it, delighted I won, and looking forward to Sunday."

The men's street qualifier will take place on Saturday, followed by the final the next day. Wettstein was Team USA's sixth-place finisher in Tokyo's women's park event.
The men's street qualifying will feature Eaton, Wright, Bottger, Pace, and Olympian Jake Ilardi. The defending Olympic gold medalist, Yuto Horigome of Japan, will compete in that event.
