A woman will produce the Kentucky Derby television coverage for the first time in the race's 148-year history.
Lindsay Schanzer has been promoted to senior producer' of Kentucky Derby coverage, where she will oversee the network's horse racing coverage. This is her tenth Derby, but her first as presenter of the show, and she's creating history.
On an annual basis, more women than men watch it. Only the Olympics come close among the network's significant events in this regard.
Flood noted, "She has the opportunity to present her point of view." "We feel she'll put her stamp on this event, elevating it to new heights."
Last year, she was in charge of the Preakness, which was forced to be postponed after Derby winner Medina Spirit tested positive for a medication not permitted on race day. "What's incredibly important to me on this day is that we're reaching an audience, many of whom have never seen horse racing before, so it's drawing them in a while also not alienating the audience who watches horse racing throughout the year," explains the executive producer.
